Description: "The key to creating community is to see the power in the small but important elements of being with others (Peter Block, 2009)”  This workshop will examine the importance of creating a racially inclusive and equitable community and how we can foster this at Humboldt and the surrounding area.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe personal and collective views of community;

  2. Describe community and its role in student success;

  3. Discuss key pillars of community;

  4. Share the benefits of an inclusive community environment on college campuses;

  5. Identify at least three ways to build community in the classroom;

  6. Apply pillars to various situations; and

  7. Analyze scenarios and create strategies to build community relevant to the topic.
